Introducing the Outer Space Studio Visits!
From May to August 2018 seven artists took up residency in the upstairs studios of West End's new not-for-profit gallery and studio complex, Outer Space. These artists; Kat Campbell, Jess Enkera, Peter Kozak, Aishla Manning, Kate McKay, Monica Rohan and Rhiannon Dionysius, kindly opened up their spaces to In Residence for a series of studio visits with other local artists and writers.
These studio visits have formed the basis of conversations and responses, some of which have taken on surprising forms. The pieces aim to highlight the artist’s studio process, the context of their work and research undertaken during their Outer Space residency period. The facilitators of these studio visits are Mitchell Donaldson, Soph Kubler, Alexander Kucharski, Aaron Perkins and Sarah Thomson.
Each week for the next seven weeks In Residence will publish one of these studio visits online, highlighting the practice of these artists who have kindly opened their studio doors and let us peek inside their minds. To receive these pieces straight to your inbox, sign up to the In Residence mailing list here.
We hope you enjoy gaining an insight into the varied practices of this group of studio residents. Check back soon to read the first instalment, Attention-seeking seahorses and other outer-suburban phenomena: an iMessage conversation between Kate McKay and Aaron Perkins.
